Material Data Sheet: PVC
Material
PVC is short for ‘Polyvinyl Chloride’, and is a plastic very commonly used as a sex toy material. It is a somewhat porous material and can have a faint scent. The texture and density of a PVC toy varies from one toy to another, and can look opaque or transparent.
The complete list of ingredients from a PVC toy are not listed and can change from a product to another. As a result, one can never really be sure of how safe the material is, and the use of a condom is recommended. It is not always free of phthalates and make sure to check on the product details to get that information. And, unless it is a food grade vinyl, you should not assume that your PVC toy is non-toxic.
Please note that PVC cannot be recycled.
Care
A PVC toy can be washed with a mild antibacterial soap and water, or with an antibacterial toy cleaner. Since it is porous, PVC cannot be sanitized and any toy should not be shared without the use of a condom. Remember to always wash your toys before and after each use, no matter what the material is.
PVC is compatible with water-based and silicone-based lubricants.
Storage
There is no specific indication for storing a PVC toy when it comes to being in contact with other toy. However, the softer PVC toys can attract some lint and it may be useful to store them in their own lint-free bags.
